RTL sounds a little more compressed and is normalized at a higher volume than KEA, so it definitely is louder and generally just has a flatter soundstage. To my ears, these aspects are a clear improvement over previous masterings. These masterings have what I've come to expect from hi-res audio: good clarity, more air and separation between instruments, and body in the bass. I don't hear any audible clipping.well, maybe some in RTL, but it's tough to say because the recording itself is a mess. Despite registering around DR8, they sound quite dynamic, especially KEA. These masterings have great punch and sound really lively. Yes, these are more compressed than some previous masterings (I can't speak for all previous masterings), so if your main criterion for evaluating the sound quality is maximum dynamic range, these are definitely not the masterings for you. I've only been listening to the core albums for the last hour, so take my initial impressions with a grain of salt, but here are some initial impressions compared to the original Elektra CDs and 1995 remasters that I own: I downloaded the 24/96 deluxe sets earlier today.
